The 2021 AFM Conference and AGM brings together key influencers from across the sector to explore, in a Covid-secure environment, how the sector is re-emerging and setting out priorities for the future. It takes place at the Majestic Hotel, Harrogate, on 4 and 5 October and will be opened by Jane Nelson, Chair of AFM.
The AFM is the trade body representing 43 mutual and not-for-profit insurers, friendly societies and other financial mutuals across the UK. Between them, mutual and not-for-profit insurers manage the savings, pensions, protection and healthcare needs of over 30 million people in the UK and Ireland, with annual premium income of £19.6 billion, and nearly 30,000 employees.
Martin Shaw, Chief Executive of AFM, says:
“AFM’s mission is to promote the concept of mutuality by helping our members identify with, remain committed to and contribute significantly to mutuality, through the promotion of best practice and a commitment to working together and in the interest of members, customers and other stakeholders. Our annual conference is always a key highlight of our calendar so we are delighted to be able to host the event in person this year, and to have the team from Whitecap joining us as part of the agenda.”
Whitecap will be presenting the findings of a recent project with AFM to conduct a strategic analysis of the the market landscape, including analysing key factors such as mutuality, the role of technology, and the growing impact of ESG. The project has been conducted in partnership with the AFM with support from industry sponsors including: Altus Consulting, Benenden Health, Cirencester Friendly Society, Cornish Mutual, Fidelity International, Holloway Friendly, Milliman, Oddfellows (which includes Unity Mutual), PG Mutual, Russell Investments, and Royal London Asset Management.
In addition to speakers from multiple AFM members, other guest speakers include EY, Royal London Asset Management, Russell Investments, Prudential Regulatory Authority (PRA), Schroders, M&G Advisory, Grant Thornton, Investec, Dudley Building Society, Hanover Search, Contact State, and PKF Littlejohn.
This will be the second time Whitecap has contributed to AFM’s annual conference, having previously spoken on the topics of strategy and FinTech in 2017, when the event was hosted in Stratford (read our post-event blog here).
