Since 2016, FinTech North has hosted well in excess of 100 events, attracting over 10,000 registrations, and featuring numerous speakers, sponsors and advocates from across the FinTech industry.
Following two successful annual conferences held as part of Leeds Digital Festival in Spring 2016 and 2017, FinTech North was incorporated in December 2017 with Whitecap Consulting being a 50% shareholder, in partnership with White Label Crowdfunding, a Leeds-based technology provider.
Today, FinTech North delivers a programme of seminars and conferences across the north of England in locations including annual conferences in Leeds, Manchester, Liverpool, and Newcastle, and numerous other regional events.
Along with other key regional FinTech organisations, FinTech North is part of the FinTech National Network, which is a group which was set up in 2019 to help enhance communication and coordination across different regions. The group works closely with Innovate Finance, and the other member regions (FinTech Scotland, FinTech Wales, FinTech West, FinTechNI, and SuperTech WM). It has regular engagement with key national bodies such as the Department for Business and Trade (DBT), City of London Corporation, the Centre for Finance & Innovation (CFIT), and FinTech academic research groups such as UKFin+ Network and UKFAN.
FinTech North operates on a not-for-profit basis. Funding for organising, promoting and delivering events is generated from commercial sponsorship, mainly from the private sector but with strong support from universities as well as the public sector, specifically via local authorities and inward investment organisations. FinTech North also has a number of partnerships with like-minded organisations.
In addition to events, FinTech North also aims to expand the range of activities it is involved in, and has been involved in numerous related initiatives such as the creation of a FinTech sandbox, supporting FinTech skills initiatives, and facilitating the delivery of FinTech innovation challenges.
